Front Row Beach Houses in Galveston
The closer your house is to the beach, the happier you will be. Unfortunately, because of the cost of land, a front row beach house in Galveston is going to be expensive.
Fortunately, Galveston has reasonably priced beach house rentals farther back from the beach.
Galveston Beach House vs. a Surfside Beach House
- Galveston has more traffic. To minimize time spent in traffic, a lot of families stay in Surfside and drive over to Galveston when they want to go to the Strand, Mardi Gras, or Moody Gardens.
- Galveston has more beach houses than Surfside. But, many of the Galveston beach house owners, especially those on the front row, elect not to rent them. Because of this:
- Surfside has more beach houses on the front row available for rent.
- A beach house in Surfside will cost less to rent than an equally nice Galveston beach house.
- The hotel/motel taxes are 50% more for a Galveston beach house than they are for a Surfside beach house.
- These taxes are “only” 10% in Surfside Beach. They are 15% in Galveston.
- This can add up to more than a few dollars. For example, if you rent a Galveston beach house for $899 you will pay a tax of $134.85. If the house is in Surfside, your tax would be $89.90.
